Top Ten Pokemon by Design Generation II

Disclaimer

This is a personal list based on pokemon I enjoy out of Generation II released in the Gold and Silver video games based on design alone and not by combat or personal regard to the pokemon itself. If I feel there is a pokemon designed better then even my favorite pokemon, the better designed will go higher. Also I'm considering mega forms and shiny forms while doing this list. Thank you. Also some of the images are gifs, feel free to click on them.

Generation I

#10 Wooper

Wooper

I think Wooper looks adorable honestly. Kind of blissfully ignorant of everything, Wooper actually looks like a real life animal as well which is kind of cool. His evolved form is less then stellar however, and his shiny makes him more pink which is decent. Wooper is just so cute.

#9 Espeon

Espeon

If you know me well enough, you know I am a sucker for the eeveelutions. I think all the originals look great with Vaporeon actually being on my generation I list. Still, the first ones don't compare to the second generation Eevee parents as Espeon is awesome, and far better designed then Jolteon and Flareon in my opinion (though not as good as Vaporeon). Bonus points, Shiny Espeon is AWESOME I know it is just the opposite color of her pinkish purple look but dang, green just looks so dramatic and cool on this pokemon!

#8 Typhlosion

157Typhlosion-1

Typhlosion is an awesome pokemon, like a mix between a fox and a grizzly with fire out the back. It is a pretty epic design and the thing looks fearsome as could be, but one of the things keeping it lower on the list is that it is a simple design especially compared to the previous form, and its shiny just seems a bit bland despite changing the green on its back to a reddish hue.

#7 Lugia

xd_lugia_1024

If it wasn't for Dark Lugia, this thing probably wouldn't be this high on the list. Lugia's design is fairly simple even when compared to the other legendary birds like Articuno, though Lugia does beat out Moltres. His shiny is okay, a bit more vibrant then Typhlosion's, but dark Lugia is a beast. The color scheme is wonderful and it looks fierce, that matched with Lugia's okay base look and shiny look put him here.

#6 Tyranitar

Mega Tyranitar

Yes his mega form got him here. Tyranitar looks like a fierce monster of a pokemon, something you wouldn't want to meet in a dark alleyway, and his mega form looks just as awesome, making him look more fierce and ancient. In both forms he just looks awesome, so why is he lower on the list? His shiny is so bland you may mistake it for regular Tyranitar.

#5 Feraligatr

maxresdefault

Yes I'm using a Minecraft art. He still looks awesome with his padded scales, his large spines, and the designs that make his belly and jaw more distinct. He is my favorite starter of all time, and one of my top favorite pokemon, possibly my favorite. That being said design wise I just feel there are four other pokemon in this generation that are designed better. For whatever reason his shiny is really interesting making his red spines blue, I'm not sure why that works but it does.

#4 Steelix

pokemans_208

This thing is a beast of a Pokemon. I mostly say that because finding one in the first Pokemon Mystery Dungeon was scary at times. Still this thing is a lot tougher looking then actual battle, but that is why he is here. Basically a better version and look for Onix who was pretty simple. Then there is his cool magnetized mega form, and his shiny makes him and his mega form look solid gold. Yeah great designs all around for this guy.

#3 Umbreon

I'm certain my post about Espeon made it obvious Umbreon was going to show up. Why so high on the list? Espeon mostly got here because of the shiny form and the ears and tail, other then that that pokemon is simple in design, while Umbreon is a bit more out there. With designs in the fur that wouldn't happen in real life, Umbreon just looks cool with the yellow features and black fur. Not only that but those yellow features turn blue when you find a shiny version. Clearly Umbreon and Espeon have the better shinies in this family. Black against blue is even better then yellow, and yellow still looks really cool.

#2 Houndoom

Though black and red are just better overall. Looking like a doberman with horns and bone armor. If this thing doesn't look like a kid version of a hell hound to you, look up its mega form which is even more awesome. It's shiny form is the only thing lacking in the design of this pokemon as it is a slight color change which is lacking. Other then that this pokemon's design is just epic.

#1 Suicune

Again, I'm a bit of a sucker for blue. Suicune is awesome, with a large gem on its head instead of a mask, ribbon like parts coming from its butt, and it looks like water in the physical form which is awesome. Also the shiny version is awesome as well, as it is a lighter blue and darker blue hair instead of purple. Again, maybe a sucker for blue, but something about the design of this pokemon speaks to me which is why it is number 1 on this list. Either that or it looks simply more lovely in Pokken.
