I'm back with this. Almost forgot I had a Wednesday blog due.
Disclaimer
This is a personal list. While Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are on my hit list and I own them, I have yet to beat them. If I have not beat a game, that game will not be referenced on this list. Kingdom Hearts will also not be on the list. Most of the games that I have beat are Nintendo games due to my past, however there are a few none Nintendo games on here as I've more recently expanded my library due to me having a better job and not reliant on my parents for my gaming (and anime) collection. If you dislike my list or I'm missing your favorite bosses, please instead of getting made make your own list in the comments or link to your list in your blog. Thank you!
This guy from Dante's Inferno is pretty iconic, probably more iconic then the game itself. It isn't a bad game at all, but perhaps not as polished as God of War is. Still this thing was fun to deal with and then you got to ride the massive beast several times, one as a raft, and even one opening a huge gate to an even bigger city. It was pretty cool, but he wasn't much of a boss fight, rather more like part of the level with him as an obstacle which is why he is lower on the list.
Slightly higher because while he is still more of an obstacle, you at least kill him. Cronos was the setting of most of the first game and a boss fight / level in the second. Again, lower as he is more of a part of a level, so massive the fight with him is like a level, but still more recognized as a boss fight then the previous entry. Really cool fight though for sure.
Ever play Pokemon? Probably know this guy. He is the first Gym Leader and the first boss fight in the entire series of Pokemon, but he is relatively easy as such making him lower on the list. He is still a fun fight however and can be tough if you are unprepared for him.
What is up with Rare games naming these creatures Tricky? Anyway, I did mention dinosaurs in the title, so you know this had to be coming. If you've played this game, the music should be in your head at the moment. Yes a racing game has a boss battle, and it wasn't easy at all. Believe me if you weren't really good at racing this guy will run all over you, literally. Once you get use to his patterns however he isn't that bad, but he is still tough... and he is the first boss of the game.
You know, Rare loved dinosaurs and prehistoric boss fights back in the day. While Conker's Bad Fur Day has a lot of great boss battles, not many fit into the elemental lists... unless you count poo as poison which you probably could but I didn't for various reasons. Still Buga the Knut counts in this category and it is an awesome boss fight. You fight a caveman, while riding a dinosaur. RIDING A DINOSAUR. How awesome is that? I won't mention the humor of this fight to keep the blog PG-13 but there is certainly some humor as well.
If there weren't better Star Fox boss battles, this category would go to the dinosaurs... and all of them would be Rare. This parent isn't much of a bad guy, just over protective, and in the land you fight him in, it is recommended you deal with him first. He likes to spit loogies at you... yeah weird but original way to attack and the fight plus the characterization is really fun in this case so win win.
Rare... WAIT SEGA!! This time is Sega's time to shine on this list. The Egg Golem is actually a really fun boss fight for me, I don't know how others feel about it but I enjoyed this fight as while it is fast at times it is also really fun platforming to work with. Yes you get to fight this as Eggman and yeah it is fun, but fighting it as Sonic is far better experience. Also there is a certain amount of mystery as well, did Eggman build the robot and if so why does it go crazy on him? What is up with his machines going crazy? If not... who did?
There aren't a metric ton of bosses from this series I could have added, but it had its fair share. Still, Trinexx was an awesome fight. While I personally dislike Link to the Past, I still admit there was a lot of good in the game, and honestly the boss fights were pretty great at times including this beast. Yes it shoots both fire and ice, but it is made of rock and when you get to a certain point the main shell explodes revealing a rock like snake form. This fight is awesome and very creative.
This thing is the second boss in the "easy" play through in Star Fox 64. While it is an easier boss fight, it is still crazy and awesome. The machine is built to dig through and destroy asteroids which is why it is on this list, but it mostly attacks with lasers. It is a powerful machine with the shield like drill, enough sonic and laser weapons to destroy some fleets if used right, and it is designed really cool. Out of all the fights, this may not be the most challenging but it is one of the most fun.
Annoying when you can't let it hit you, this beast is a fun and challenging boss fight. You have to throw bomb boos at it to destroy its rock shell as it throws rock punches and actual rocks at you. Once the shell is destroyed you need to hit it again to harm it. It is difficult for a Mario boss fight, but it is also one of my more favorite Mario boss fights of all time and easily tops this list. As always, thanks for reading.
